Our Instructors
Miss Donna
Hi, I'm Ms. Donna. I am a 3rd Degree Black Belt in the Kenpo Karate system. I have been studying for 11 years and I am the owner of the Elicker Kenpo Karate Academy. I have made it my goal to teach and train anyone willing to learn Kenpo while keeping our school family oriented. I have been a school bus driver for 11 years too. I am the mother of 3 children and the grandmother of 1. I studied under Gary Ronemus before opening my own school and I am now futher instructed through the Kenpo system by Josh Ryer. We strive for one goal - to be the best we can be in the short time God has given us on this earth.
Mr. Sam
I'm a 40+ year old kid at heart. I love taking Kenpo with Ms. Donna (I will make it to black belt this time!). I'm grateful and happy for Ms. Donna and her knowledge. I'm a father of a wonderful daughter (Ashley), and a husband of a great wife (Karen). My family is my greatest strength. I am proud to say that my Kenpo friends are also part family. Thanks to all who help me and that allow me to help them.
Mr. Sam - aka Ms. Donna's Big Galoot!
Miss Nicole
My name is Nikki, Miss Nicole, or Ms. Donna's daughter. I have been studying Kenpo for 11 years now, and I am a first degree black belt. I enjoy everything about the system and plan to own a studio later in life. Other than Kenpo, I am an avid field hockey player, sprinter, pianist, and singer. To me, Kenpo is a family thing. Both my mom and dad take lessons, along with my brother and my nephew. I see Kenpo as an art that I can never give up.
Miss Alyx
Hi, I'm Alyx Mervine, also known as Miss Alyx. I've been studying Kenpo Karate for almost four years. I take Kenpo with the rest of my family, although I've come to discover that I've joined quite a large family here at the Academy. I greatly enjoy Kenpo and the people I have met through it. My favorite classes are when we practice with staffs, or when we choreograph a fight for a demonstration. I'd like to open my own small business (maybe even a karate studio) when I graduate. Outside of Kenpo, I enjoy playing guitar, hanging out with friends, and discovering crazy things in dollar stores.
Mr. Warntz
My name is Jack A Warntz. I've been in Kenpo for 8 years. I'm currently a first degree black belt. I started teaching and taking martial arts because I love the art and have a passion for Kenpo. My goal in Kenpo is to reach the highest point and never stop, because Kenpo has no beginning nor end. I'd like to thank everyone in the past who made what I am: Mr. Dorsey, Mr. Ryer, and Ms. Donna Elicker who opened a school and treats me like family.
Yours in Kenpo,
Jack A Warntz
Mr. Wayne
My martial arts journey began in 1973 at the age of 16. I sought training to build my confidence and to avoid living in fear. I began to reach this goal early on by training with practioners of boxing, Shotokan, Isshinryu, and several other styles.
In the fall of 1977, I walked into a Kenpo Karate Studio and realized this was the most interesting and practical of all the arts I had seen. Once achieving purple belt, I had to make a decision as to my future. I decided to pursue ministry - I continue to pastor a church with a wonderful congregation in Hanover, PA.
In October 2004, I had a grandson, Adrien, that inspired me to step back on the mat as he began working on his own Kenpo skills, at Mr. Gary Ronemus's studio in York, PA. I presently train and instruct at Elicker's Kenpo Academy. I'm having a blast meeting new people and learning new things, and of course, continuing to work with my grandson.
Ms. Kelly
Hey, I am Ms. Kelly, homeschool mom of 3 students (Alyx, Kate, & Dan). Standing at all of 4'11" tall and watching my kids take karate, I decided to join them: I couldn't pass up the great family discount! I've been hooked for almost 4 years now, and the family bonding time has been awesome (plus I've made some terrific new friends). The self-confidence I have achieved in Kenpo has helped me to lose over 35 pounds! I especially love the mental stimulation of Kenpo - it's not just moves; it's so much more! Recently, my husband, Alan, has started Kenpo, and I am so excited to see what will happen next.
Finally, a big THANK YOU & HUG, to all who have poured their knowledge of Kenpo into me. I promise to pass it on, and may God continue to bless us always.
Mr. Warren
Hi! My name is Warren Meyers. I am currently a first degree black belt, with many thanks to Miss Donna. When I first started, I was interested only in self defense; however, as each class progressed, my desire to achieve more became greater (and the people in the classes were great!). I currently work for a school district. I am happily married to my wife, Julie (of 25 years). We enjoy going to car shows, concerts, and baseball games. We especially love to travel together.
Miss Tasha
Hey, my name is Miss Tasha. I have been studying the art of Kenpo for almost 2 years and I am currently a green belt. Besides studying Kenpo, I enjoy playing the piano, singing and working with kids. My goal, besides eventually getting my black belt, is getting as much knowledge as I can so that I may pass it on to the next generation of Kenpo Students.
Junior Instructors
Our junior instructor program is for those who are excelling at their belt level, and/or would like to teach. These instructors include:
Ashley Schoonover, Daniel Mervine, Isaac Elicker, Ethan Marston
Mr. Fuqua
My name is Mr. Fuqua. I am a first degree black belt. I have been studying since 1995, with a couple of breaks every now and then. As I embark on this journey, I can't help but reflect upon where Kenpo has taken me. It went from taming the anger and self doubt to having self-confidence and self-respect, while watching others around me change and grow. I enjoy knowing that Kenpo students from the past and those who take Kenpo now will share the same rewards, such as self-discipline and confidence. Kenpo Karate isn't just an Art, it's also a way of life.
